On this site you will meet young Jamaican folks but we’d like to tell you a little about our island ‘Jamaica land We Love’. Beautiful Jamaica is a mountainous island located in the Caribbean just 90 miles south of Cuba. Jamaica is an island which many would say is the ideal vacation spot. Columbus disembarked here in 1494, and the Spanish soon after brought in slaves as the native. Arawak Indians were also here but they died out. Currently more than 90 percent of the population is of African descent but we have people from all walks of life hence our motto ‘Out of Many One People'. The British took over the island in 1655, and we gained independence in 1962. Tourism is a very steady earner in Jamaica, but reliance on unpredictably priced commodities, such as bauxite and sugar, causes uneven growth. The people are great and if you should have a Jamaican as your friend, they will be extremely loyal and be your friend forever. You can learn more about our history here.
